The East Rutherford lost one of its own in March of 2010. Loretta Gentles worked as records clerk for 38 years at our department after serving as records clerk in Carlstadt for 3 years. She passed away as a result of injuries sustained during the northeaster of March 2010.
According to Chief Minda, Loretta was a mother-like figure to each and every member of the police force. She was a lifelong resident who would go out of her way to help everyone that she came in contact with.
Loretta would be at work each and every day. Mayor Cassella recalled a day when he told only necessary workers to come in due to blizzard conditions. Chief Minda got the next call from Loretta asking if we could get her to the police station because she wanted to do her job. The Mayor stated that was the type of commitment that made Loretta who she was and East Rutherford the town that it is.
Loretta will be remembered forever by having the record room in the new public safety building named in her honor. Her kindness and presence will be forever missed.
